Mortimer Toynbee

As a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, the Toad was a teammate of the illusionist Mastermind, the speedster Quicksilver, and the beautiful Scarlet Witch, whom the Toad became infatuated with. The Brotherhood was thwarted by the original X-Men during their attempt to conquer the South American nation of Santo Marco. The Toad was especially useful against the X-Man Beast, whose mutant abilities matched his own. The hopping Toad then masqueraded as an athlete to get the X-Men's attention, who, in turn, attempted to recruit him. Upon uncovering the ruse, the X-Men had one of their own, the flying Angel, taken hostage by Magneto. Using Toad as bait, they managed to infiltrate the Brotherhood's base on Asteroid M, but could not prevent the villains from escaping
